Personal Discipline

What a tasty beginning to my day. A chili lime seasoned shrimp omelette made with 5 ounces of shrimp and four large eggs. This delicious breakfast came in at 0 points, 426.4 calories, 19.4g fat, 1.4g carbs and 58.7g of protein. At first glance, it may appear to not have a blooming thing to do with discipline, but I am going to explain why it does.

I do not eat fast food, processed foods, or anything with refined sugar. It would be super easy to get in the car and drive down to the local Choke and Puke fast food establishment or to pop a packaged meal into the microwave. Hell it would be even easier to pour a bowl of sugary cereal into a bowl and snarf that crap down while sitting in front of the boob tube in my underwear while watching cartoon network.

It all seems easier to go that lame ass route, but is it really easier, or is it more a matter of wanting something heavy on simple carbs instead? I am going to say for most it is likely a matter of not so much laziness, yet that likely does play a role, but more a case of satisfying the carb monster residing in the mind. He is a crazy bastard who will do anything to be unleashed to wreak havoc on your blood sugar and insulin.

That omelette only took about 5 minutes to prepare from start to finish. It was quite simple to stir four eggs in a cup, chop and season the shrimp, cook and then plate it. That high protein breakfast carried me well into the afternoon where even if the other choices cold have taken less time, that same amount of time would have been repeated again just as soon as the carb cravings began again. Truly, I find preparing meals no matter the time of day from whole foods to be just as easy as any other choices I could make in regards to filling my gut. At the end of the day, making the decision to prepare healthy whole foods is only a simple form of self discipline. It is about taking personal ownership of your own health and wellness while making no excuses. Like the old saying goes, excuses are like assholes. Everyone has one and they all stink.
