Too Tired?

Forgive the bug splatters on my window, but the sunrise over southwestern Kansas was quite spectacular this morning. Those who know me, know that despite suffering a degree of Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), I make it a point to find something beautiful every day of my life. And yes, this long haired, inked up salty language using Veteran finds beauty in watching the sunrise. One of the best things about my current career as a trucker is my office view is better than any you could get from a stationary building. I have a love for nature and attempt to absorb as much beauty as I can as it soothes the PTS and is a nice contrast to all the true ugliness I have seen in my travels around the world.

The plate of food was my delicious dinner that I prepared this evening after being on the road in my semi for 18 hour, having traveled 957 miles while delivering construction and industrial supplies to my employers stores across central to southwest Kansas. This dinner was grilled chicken on a bed of lettuce, Spanish rice, tomatoes, and black beans. I topped it with black bean and corn salsa. For my Weight Watchers friends this hearty plate of food came in at 3 points for 402.1 calories, 4.9g fat, 50.2g carbs and 38.3g of lean protein. And to make this meal even better is it only took a few easy minutes to prepare and only cost about $2.00 a serving. So much of a better choice of wholesome food over sugary garbage from Mickey D’s or some processed crap I could have thrown in the microwave because I was “too tired” to cook. Too tired is a lame excuse I never use to eat unhealthy foods. Unhealthy foods are what make you tired. I am a busy man with my work, and will be heading back on the road in my semi again for the night in about an hour. I know a little about being tired, but that is no reason in my opinion to trash my health out of so called convenience of eating any other way than I do. I have watched too many truckers worrying about passing their DOT physicals because of ailments brought on my their lack of proper diets. News flash, the day of fat ass out of shape truckers is coming to a screeching halt. As a professional trucker and also having loved ones on the same roads where eighty thousand pound trucks are being driven by drivers with health issues, I am glad the government is cracking down with regulations in regards to our mandatory medical cards which must be carried at all times while operating a commercial vehicle.

Speaking of not using too tired as an excuse, tomorrow is a weight training day. I am only running about 500 miles on my route tonight and will be back to my terminal by about 9:00 am tomorrow. Besides having healthy pre-measured foods to eat in the morning, I also have my sneakers and gym clothes packed in order for me to hit my gym for a couple hours of intense weight training before I even come home. My weight training carries the same importance to me as showing up to my job. It is a personal responsibility I take serious.

Thank you and God bless to all who are following my life journey. I truly appreciate all the tremendous support and kind words. While I strongly advocate a certain way of eating and weight training for health and wellness, I enjoy reading and learning about what works for others. If you have something you would like to share on my blog in the comments, please do. Hell, even if you strongly disagree with anything I write, we can have an open and honest dialogue as long as there are never any personal attacks against myself or any other comments. I love healthy exchanges of ideas.

    Thanks for the post.
You’re in my thoughts a lot since I found you. In a positive way.
The rain has been pretty bad down here in Florida this week and you know driving that semi is very tiring with rain and people that can’t drive worth a shit to begin with……
So along with being stressed and tired…. instead of junking out on crap food….I came home and made a turkey bacon and egg breakfast.
I’ll get back in the gym soon. I’m taking some steps to get this heel feeling better and I’ll be back to it.
Drive safe my friend…. look forward to your post.
    Thanks

Thank you for the kind words of affirmation, they are appreciated very much.

Semi’s in heavy rains do not always equal fun times do they? You be safe on the road as well my friend.
