Holiday Dining Out Tips

This is a short list adapted from Cengage Learning in our Nutrition/Wellness curriculum. It’s information that some of us know, but sometimes fail to implement. Here you go, no excuses!

-Examine your options before beginning to fill your plate. Choose wisely.

-Take the edge off hunger by having a broth based soup, small salad, fruit or light appetizer first.

-Ask for what you need, dressings, sauces and gravies ON THE SIDE, Ask for reduced calorie versions.

-Request fresh fruit or sorbet for dessert. If you do get a rich dessert, share.

-READ! The following terms describe high fat/calorie items: au gratin, Alfredo, batter-dipped, breaded, bearnaise, carbonara, creamy, crispy, croquette, deep-fried, flaky, fritters, parmigiana, tempura, with gravy or with hollandaise sauce. Order red sauces other than white.

-Downsize your order. Just don’t order the most fattening thing on the menu to begin with!

-Eat slowly for maximum pleasure.

Party on! ;-*
