Fat Burners For Weight Loss

Fat burners for weight loss can be found everywhere we cast our gaze. They can be found on the shelves of most any store that sells dietary supplements. We can find ourselves bombarded with media advertisements for them every day.

With all of this marketing, are fat burners actually good for weight loss?

No, they are not good for weight loss. Some do little to nothing other than to rob you of your hard earned cash. Others can actually cause harm to your body.

These products are largely marketed by firms that rely on your desperation to lose weight.  These firms also believe that you are gullible and know little about nutrition. Most commercially available fat burners do very little to nothing for your weight loss. The fat burners that do help you to burn fat often contain ingredients that can actually do great harm to your health. Fat burners that come from illicit means can actually kill you.

The bottom line for weight loss in a healthy manner is to eat fewer calories and move your body more. If you eat less and are still not losing weight, you are simply still eating too many calories. You did not get overweight over night, you cannot expect to lose that weight over night. Losing weight in a healthy manner is not a quick and temporary task to get through, especially if you also want to maintain that loss afterwards.

Fat burners will not do this for you! The marketers of these bogus products are giving you empty promises, always read their fine print on their labeling. They will always tell you results are not normal and best results come from a healthy diet and exercise.

If you take any type of supplement, you need to do so from an advantage point of first understanding them.

How are fat burners supposed to work?

Fat burners often allege to increase your metabolism in order to burn fat. They also sometimes claim to create a hormonal response in your body which will cause you to burn fat more efficiently. These lofty promises are pretty tall orders for supplements that you can buy over the counter without a prescription.

But they bring about Thermogenesis!

Many of these marketers will throw around words like Thermogenesis  to describe their products effects in your body. While these scientific words sound promising, they are not describing anything that your body is not already doing on its own. Thermogenesis is nothing more than the metabolic process when your body burns calories to produce heat. Your body does this while at rest. It does it even better when you raise your heart rate through exercise. The bottom line is  a low-calorie diet coupled with regular physical exercise are the most efficient ways for you to lose body fat.

Most fat burners contain mild stimulants.

Fat burners almost always contain some type of mild stimulant, or a combination of a few to suppress your appetite and elevate your heart rate. The truth is, what you are taking with most of them are no more effective than drinking a couple cups of coffee. For some of you, if you drink coffee and take these fat burners, you could be placing your health, or your life, in jeopardy. Caffeine can be dangerous in high doses for some people. Too much caffeine can cause headaches, migraine, and high blood pressure in some individuals.

Just because a fat burner supplement is sold in attractive packaging at a local drugstore or through an online vendor doesn’t mean that it’s safe!

Caffeine from coffee and tea is safe for most healthy adults. The concern is many people who begin a new weight loss program are not always in good health. Fat burners are not a controlled substance, so you do not know exactly how much you are getting in a dose. The caffeine in fat burners are in a powder form. Caffeine in powder form can provide toxic levels of caffeine. Just one teaspoon of powdered caffeine is equivalent to about 28 cups of coffee. Such high levels of caffeine can cause serious health problems and possibly death, even for the healthiest among us. (1)

One of the biggest risks of taking over-the-counter diet supplements is that you can’t always be certain about the ingredients that a product contains. Because the FDA does not test all weight loss products for safety, there’s no guarantee that each ingredient in every supplement is safe. (2)

People with eating disorders often are consumed by weight loss.

We always think of people with eating disorders as anorexics and bulimics. But this is far from the scope of folks with disordered eating. Body builders, especially at the professional IFBB level also have eating disorders coupled with Body Dysmorphia. Body dysmorphic disorder is a mental health disorder in which you can’t stop thinking about one or more perceived defects or flaws in your appearance such as a flaw that appears minor or can’t be seen by others. But you may feel so embarrassed, ashamed and anxious that you may avoid many social situations. (3)

People with body dysmorphic issues will often turn to fat burners in order to lose more weight. They will often abuse these supplements, or even turn to illicit sources which are quite dangerous. One dangerous fat burner in particular is DNP.  It is a drug that is illegally sold as a weight-loss supplement. Online retailers who sell DNP often target bodybuilders and extreme dieters and promise miracle results. This particular fat burning drug can cause a rapid increase in both your metabolic rate and body temperature which can lead to organ failure. Is a leaner body actually worth this risk to you? I hope and pray not.

Please, just be the best you can be naturally!

Your worth and value as an individual are not predicated on how you appear in the mirror. You are just as valuable to society with a weight problem as you are with a super lean body. While we would like to see you at a healthy body fat percentage, we never want anyone to feel like less of a person because they are not at their ideal weight.

The idea with weight loss is to be healthier. Taking fat burners is not going to help you with this. What would the purpose of getting lighter be, if you destroy your health in the process? Your weight gain did not come over night, nor will your weight loss. I am adamantly against fat burners enough that I killed a possibly great partnership with a supplement company just a year ago because I could not get behind their fat burning supplement that they had me do a review on. Some weight loss programs do really have positive results, I did struggle with weight for some time and eating right through the weight loss program did help.
Note: Dieting and workout are the keys in losing weight.

The key to successful weight loss is to be able to maintain that loss once you reach your goal weight. This is why creating a healthy lifestyle is far superior to dieting. 95% of diets fail once the individual goes off of it, especially keto when one begins eating carbs again.

True, most products out there are scams and have serious side effects. However you can check the Animal Cuts from Animal… They have a nicely put together recipe

Hi Ashen, thank you for reading and commenting. I understand there are some people who swear by fat burning products. However, I’m not an advocate for them, especially for those with significant body fat to lose. These products can be harmful to a person’s health when misused by people desperate to lose weight. What we teach our followers is to lose weight gradually through good nutrition and exercise.

  3. I think this is all very true our bodies can easily lose weight without these! Better to have a black coffee or just water!! 🙂

    1. David Yochim says:

Thank you! Black coffee and water, along with good nutrition is all I require.
