This casein protein is my new favorite protein supplement. I have used several different protein powders over the years, but none has compared to this. There are others of great quality to be found, but for flavor, this is hands down delicious. It tastes just like a chocolate shake made from hand scooped ice cream. The fact that casein protein makes for a thicker shake than does whey, I find it quite a bit more satiating. I believe this is a perfect protein supplement for athletes, as well as anyone else who wants, or needs to add a little protein to their diet. Did I mention it tastes truly like a chocolate milkshake?
What I like about casein protein is it is a slower digesting and absorbing protein. Casein is great when used after exercise, between meals or before bed to help support satiety and muscle recovery. You can’t go wrong with this brand!
What is the difference between whey and casein protein?
Casein and whey are the two types of protein found in cow’s milk, making up 80% and 20% of milk protein respectively. They are both high-quality proteins, as they contain all essential amino acids, which you must get from food since your body cannot make them. In addition, they’re easily digested and absorbed.
Both casein and whey are byproducts of cheese production.
During cheesemaking, special enzymes or acids are added to heated milk. These enzymes or acids cause the casein in the milk to coagulate, or change to a solid state, separating from a liquid substance. This liquid substance is the whey protein, which is then washed and dried into a powdered form for use in food products or dietary supplements.
The remaining curds of casein can be washed and dried to create a protein powder or added to dairy products, such as cottage cheese. (1)

Casein Whey and casein protein are both derived from milk. They differ in digestion times, casein digests slowly, making it good before bedtime. Whey protein digests quickly and is ideal for workouts and muscle growth. No matter which protein you prefer, they both contain different bioactive compounds that may boost your immune system and offer other benefits.
Some people might want to argue the minutiae of which protein is better than the other. The truth is for most people, choosing one over the other won’t necessarily give better results in the gym or markedly improve your health. You select the type that you prefer or buy a blend that contains both.
