My lovely wife found this spaghetti while shopping at Aldi’s the other day and wanted to give it a try. I was a little bit skeptical of this spaghetti at first, but since the nutritional value looked to be pretty good, I also figured it would be worth a try.

Loraine prepared this for our dinner the other night along with her delectable homemade pasta sauce that I absolutely love. She prepared it as instructed and let it cook for four to six minutes, but thought it needed to be cooked for a few more minutes after six. She let it cook for a total of eight and a half minutes and decided it was about as done as done can be.  As you can see from the pictures on the box, the spaghetti has a very different look and texture than normal spaghetti, but of course it would. This is made from nothing but pure soy flour.

Taste wise, this spaghetti did not disappoint, the flavor was rather neutral and paired great with Loraine’s homemade sauce. The only downside for me was the texture which was not tough, but it also was not softer as you would get from regular pasta. However, the texture was only a minor disappointment for both of  us, and we will be trying it again in the future. I think next time we have it, Loraine will first boil it, mix in her sauce, and then put it in a baking dish with mozzarella cheese spread on top.  Maybe with being preboiled, and then baked with the sauce, the texture might smooth out some. Regardless, with eleven grams of fiber and twenty five grams of protein per two ounce serving, I will be eating more of this. And speaking of the fiber and protein content, this is the first spaghetti in my life where I actually felt satisfied with a two ounce portion before cooking.

For about $3.00 US, you can’t go wrong with this product. This is proof that one can find affordable choices for healthy foods. In fact, Aldi’s probably has some of the healthiest food choices you can find at affordable prices.
