I bought a bag of Oroweat’s Keto Bread the other day to try and also to give you folks a good review. First, I am not in any way a cheerleader for keto, I think that keto is far too strict unnecessarily and that people who do not get it right, can make themselves sick. What I do believe in is being intelligent about my total carbohydrate intake as a whole with my other macronutrient intake. Complex carbohydrates are necessary and they are good for us no matter what the latest keto guru might be spewing to the public. The reason people lose weight on keto is because they get full before they have eaten too many calories. You can be on keto and actually gain weight if you are to consume too many calories. The reality is no matter what diet you are following to lose weight, you must be in a caloric deficit. But I digress…
I actually liked the flavor and texture of Oroweat’s Keto Bread. I found that it closely resembles any other good quality white bread that you might enjoy. Besides the taste and texture of this tasty bread is the fact it provides 8 grams of fiber which brings down the net carbs to only 3 grams per serving. And, I love the fact this bread contains no added sugars!

Being honest, I am and always have been a lover of bread. Before kicking foods with added sugars and losing weight, I could eat between three to six sandwiches a day. I love a good bread and this one would be easy for me to be a glutton with as easily as any other white bread. The downside of Oroweat’s Keto Bread for me is that each slice provides sixty calories. Those calories are fewer than some quality whole grain breads that I have consumed in the past, but there are also keto friendly breads available that provide fewer calories per slice. Specifically, Kroger has their Carb Master bread that only provides thirty calories per slice and is just as good in my opinion if not better. The other downside to Oroweat’s Keto Bread is the cost. I bought my loaf at our local Price Chopper grocery store for $6.99 US which is roughly twice what I ever spend on breads.
Besides the flavor and texture of this bread, those sixty calories per slice are pretty much empty calories when you look at the nutritional profile. You might believe that does not matter if you are an advocate of keto, but you would be wrong. Calories do matter when it comes to weight loss and weight management. None of us can change the basic laws of thermodynamics when it comes to calorie consumption. If you do not agree with me that is fine, but I would strongly recommend that you begin tracking your calorie and food intake and then increase those calories by five hundred to one thousand more per day than what your basal metabolic rate requires and see for yourself what happens.
High fat foods tend to contain many more calories than foods that are high in carbohydrates and proteins. It is, therefore, important that people keep track of the number of calories that they consume. People who consume too many calories will gain weight, even if they are in a state of ketosis.
My opinion of this bread is that it is not bad for an occasional sandwich or slice of toast with breakfast if you do not care that you are consuming pretty much empty calories. I personally want to ensure that every thing I consume provides my body with some kind of nutritional benefit which this bread is lacking. If money is of no concern to you, then you might not mind spending the extra cash. But if you are on a tight budget as many are right now, go for some of the lower cost alternatives.
